If your msn live messenger does not work right or does not let you login to chat with your friends…, first of all, you need to check if your computer is  connected to the internet, simply open internet explorer or any other internet browser you have and go to a website, if the website, if the website does not show up, then you need to contact your ISP (internet Service Provider).

If your internet works, then let's do some check up to find out why msn live messenger is not working properly

STEP 1: open your msn messnger look below and find Service status, if the message in that page say's "All systems are stable and running." Then go to step 2, if not then wait and try to login again later when the service is back on

STEP 2:  one of the common cause is the date is not set correctly in your computer, to check go to

Start / Run / and type timedate.cpl and hit enter

Check if the month, the year and time are correct, if one of them is not correct, just correct it and hit ok and try to login again in msn messenger, if you still can't then go to step 3

STEP 3: if you have firewall installed, you need to add msnmsgr.exe to it's list of allowed programs, for example if you have just default windows xp firewall, go to

Start / Run / and type wscui.cpl and hit enter

The windows security center will show up , Scroll down all the way to the bottom until you find "windows firewall" , click on it one time , then in the next window "windows firewall" choose "Exception" TAB , in the programs and services list , look and find windows live messenger if it is not checked then check it and click ok and then close the windows security center and try to login in your messenger , if  it still does not let you to login in , go to step 4

STEP 4: for messenger to work properly it need some dlls to be installed and registered, go to

Start / Run / and type REGSVR32 softpub.dll and then hit enter

The message will display "DLLRegisterService in softpub.dll succeeded", click ok and then try to login

Sometimes, the messenger service is slow because of heavy traffic they receive every min, so try to login again later
